2008 YOUNG GUNS TOUR - CHASING THE OLYMPIC DREAM
The Australian Sports Commission in a joint partnership with Triathlon Australia has named ten promising triathletes from New South Wales and Queensland in its National Talent Identification and Development Program (NTID) in a bid to enhance the development of Australia.s next generation of Olympians.
Known as the "Young Guns" the NTID program aims to expose our developing athletes to international racing on the ITU Continental Cup circuit in Asia. The "Young Guns" triathletes will gain valua ble experience through competition on theinternational race tour.
NTID Head Coach Aaron Lean will lead the "Young Guns" triathletes on an international tour of Japan competing against the world.s best at the Shichigahama ITU Asian Continental Cup on 2 July 2008. The squad then heads to Singapore to compete in the Singapore ITU Asian Continental Cup on 13 July 2008. Triathlon Australia has also appointed a new development coach for the .Young Guns. program, Warwick Dalziel, to support the training and performance of the triathletes while overseas.The NTID program provides an effective pathway for emerging athletic talent to achieve their best through international competition. Australia has enjoyed great depth and talent in triathlon racing with the likes of Brad Kahlefeldt and Emma Snowsill among the top rankings on the world tour.
The Australian Government through the Australian Sports Commission has invested more than $20 million over four years in this NTID program to find and develop Australia.s best athletic talent across 18 different sports.
