2010 NTID YOUNG GUNS INTERNATIONAL TOUR INFORMATION
Triathlon Australia and the Australian Sports Commission are continuing the National Talent Identification and Development (NTID) program called "Swim, Run and Ride to the Hyde".
A major part of the NTID Triathlon Program is the Young Guns International Tour.
The aim of the NTID Young Gun International Tour is to develop potential triathlon talent for the London 2012 and 2016 Olympic Games.
The NTID Young Guns program provides outstanding opportunities for identified triathletes and allows athletes to be exposed to high level international competitions, long and short haul travel experiences along with foreign languages and custom challenges.
Planning for the 2010 NTID Young Guns Tour is well underway. This year it is anticipated the tour will run from 2 July to 22 August with 2 main bases. The first half of the tour will be based at the AIS European Training Centre in Varese Italy.
The second half of the tour will be based at the AIS European Triathlon Camp with the National Team in Aix-les-Bain, France. The tour will finish on 22 August following the Lausanne World Cup Triathlon.
Those Young Gun athletes selected for the 2010 ITU Budapest World Triathlon Championships will remain in Aix-les-Bain for the pre-worlds training camp while the rest of the Young Gun team will return home.
Young Guns Selection Information
- The selection for the 2010 NTID Young Guns Tour is discretionary
- Priority will be given to athletes aiming for selection in Australian U23/Elite team for ITU Budapest World Triathlon Championships and those athletes with potential to be selected for the 2012 Olympic Team.
- It is anticipated the YGT will consist of between 8-12 athletes subject to athletes performance levels, potential and the tour budget.
- The TA Elite Selection Committee will consider performance at the following races for selection into the 2010 Young Guns Team.
- o Feb 7 Elite National Series Race, Caloundra, AUS
- o Feb 28 Elite National Series Race, Raby Bay, AUS
- o Mar 14 ITU Oceania Championships, Wellington, NZL
- o Mar 28 ITU World Cup, Mooloolaba, AUS
- o Mar 28 Open Elite Race, Mooloolaba, AUS
- o Apr 10 ITU Continental Cup, Singapore SIN
Selection of athletes to 2010 YGT will be finalised on or before the April 25th
While TA will cover the costs of most things on the 7 week tour (including accommodation, transfers, entry fees, full 2XU team uniform, access to medical/physio, meals etc) please be aware athletes selected for the 2010 Young Guns Team will be required to hold a current and financial pro licence, sign the TA/athlete agreement and also pay a team levy which in the past represents a % of the international airfare component.
The amount of the levy will be confirmed following the selection of the team.
